Attitudes of Turkish Society Toward Sports Organizations: A Preliminary Perspective on the 2027 European Games in Istanbul

Abstract

This study examines the attitudes of the Turkish population toward international sports organizations and analyzes the determining factors of these attitudes in the context of the 2027 European Games to be held in Istanbul. A total of 1,088 participants residing in Istanbul were surveyed using a demographic information form and the Attitude Scale Toward International Sports Organizations. Descriptive statistics, t-tests, and ANOVA analyses were conducted. The findings indicate that although participants expressed positive emotional attitudes toward such events, their behavioral participation tendencies were relatively lower. Additionally, variables such as marital status, previous experience as a licensed athlete, volunteering background, and frequency of participation in recreational activities were found to have significant effects on attitudes. These results underscore the importance of increasing public awareness and engagement to ensure the successful implementation of the event.
